Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to your questions about immigration, legal, and property matters in Mexico

What is the difference between temporary and permanent residency?
A temporary residency allows you to live legally in Mexico for a period of 1 to 4 years. A permanent residency has no expiration.

Can I start my residency application from abroad?
Yes. You can begin your process from your home country through the Mexican consulate. We help you with the preparation, requirements, and follow-up, even if you live in the U.S., Canada, or Europe.

I was born in the United States, but my parents are Mexican. Can I obtain citizenship?
Yes. If you have Mexican parents or grandparents, you can obtain Mexican citizenship by birth, even if you were born abroad. We guide you through the entire process, from obtaining your birth certificates to the delivery of your CURP.

Can I have dual citizenship?
Yes. Mexico allows dual citizenship. You can keep your original nationality and legally obtain Mexican citizenship without renouncing either one.

What do I need to apply for my Mexican passport?
You need: a Mexican birth certificate, CURP, official ID, and proof of address. If you live outside Mexico, we help you prepare your consulate appointment and review all your documents.

Can I renew my passport from abroad?
Yes. Renewals can be done at any Mexican consulate. Our team supports you with the necessary documentation and forms so that you avoid errors or rejections.

I'm a foreigner. Can I buy property in Mexico?
Yes. According to the Mexican Constitution, in certain restricted zones you can purchase property through a bank trust (fideicomiso). Outside those zones, property can also be acquired through an agreement with the SRE. When you buy or sell a property through MAXLIFE YUCATAN, your consulting and representation service on these matters is included.

Can I handle all these procedures from the U.S. or Canada?
Yes. We assist clients online via Zoom, WhatsApp, and email. We review your documents digitally and guide you step by step. You don't need to be physically in Mexico to get started.
